June 11, 1994 The 5A LOCAL NEWS Lesniewski recalled as upbeat, giving Freeman Staff Waukesha West Gymnastics Coach Richard Gamez still has a picture of Jason Lesniewski tacked to his refrigerator. "Lesniewski and the three other young men in the photograph were seniors at Waukesha South High School at the time. The picture was taken in 1991 at the state gymnastics meet. "He wasn't just one of my gymnasts," Gamez said of Lesniewski, "he was also one of my very best friends." Lesniewski, 20, died Thursday in Tempe, Ariz. in a car accident.

"He wasn't a quitter." He always tried hard," Gamez added. Gamez said Lesniewski as one of the team's best gympasts. Mason was involved in the comprunity in other ways, his father said. He played in the school band and was a former cub scout, little leaguer and junior bowler. the Freeman.

"He was a person who help anybody and Ronald Lesniewski said. "He'd take the shirt off his back. He was so outgoing." Jason was always smiling, his father said. "He was happy even in the worst type of situations. He would always try to make you feel good.

He always picked himself up and the others around him." Gamez had similar memories. "He was a very outgoing guy," said Gamez. "He never really got angry or anything." Jason was attending Arizona State University, where he was majoring in business finance. "We talked to him Wednesday night," his father said. "He called to tell us he was sure he had the classes he needed for next semester." Ronald Lesniewski drove past his son's former elementary school today, trying to deal with the loss.

It is a great one. "Even when he was home last Christmas, if we were in a store he was not afraid to put his arms around us and hug us and kiss us," Jason's father said.
